Biography Johannes Brahms

Johannes BRAHMS was born in Hamburg in 1833 and died in Vienna in 1897. He is a composer whose work combines both romanticism and classicism (search for balance and unity, unique phenomenon, the antithesis of a Richard Wagner or a Johann Strauss). In 1853, he met Franz Liszt and Robert Schumann which had supported him very early and offered him encouragement and friendship. After tours in the major German cities, he moved to Vienna in 1863. Johannes Brahms composed a very important amount of work in all genres except for opera: piano (4 Ballads in 1854, 2 Rhapsodies Op 79, many fantasies, variations, etc.), chamber music for 2-6 instruments, Concertos (2 for piano, violin 1, 1 for violin and cello), 4 symphonies, two serenades, 2 openings, a very abundant vocal work (Requiem German in 1868, the alto Rhapsody in 1869, a hundred choirs and several hundred Lieder).
